Day 2: Key Yachting J Cup Regatta 2023 in association with B&G

Race winners of day 2: IRC 1 J/112E ValenTina, IRC 2 J/92 Nightjar, J/99 Jackpot, J/111 McFly, J/70 Brutus II and J/109 Jukebox.

IRC 1

The Irish J/112E ValenTina managed to overtake Jahmali and took the top spot on day 2 in IRC 2. Mike and Sarah Wallis’ J/122E Jahmali, still fighting for the top of the leaderboard, followed very closely behind in 2nd.

ValenTina and Jahmali are the top boats to watch going into the final day of racing.

IRC 2

Jack Banks and crew on the J/92 have had a fantastic regatta so far, placing 1st again on the second day of racing. Having come 3rd in day 2’s racing, David Greenhalgh’s J/92 Jronimo is now sitting at 2nd place overall with Becky Walford’s J/92 in 3rd lace after a successful day yesterday.

J/109’s

Exciting racing continues for the competitive J/109 class. On day 2, John Smart’s Jukebox came in 1st closely followed by David McGough’s Just So in 2nd and David Richards Jumping Jellyfish in 3rd.

Results for the J/109’s are very close and the national champion is still very much to be decided in today’s racing.

J/111’s

Tony Mack’s J/111 is having a very successful national championship so far. At the end of day 2, McFly was still at the top of the leaderboard even with placing 3rd across the day’s racing. McFly’s chances of retaining the championship are looking good. Chris Jones and Louise Makin’s JourneyMaker II is also having a great J Cup again this year as expected, followed closely behind McFly in 2nd. Cornel Riklin’s Jitterbug managed to push its way to the top across the three races of day 2, leaving them currently in 3rd overall.

J/70’s

As the wind had picked up from day 1, the fleet of J/70’s managed to complete three races. Charles Thompson’s Brutus II won across all three races, placing them currently in 2nd place overall. Little J, skippered by Mathieu Cadei, had a fantastic day 2 compared to day 1, they placed 2nd yesterday leaving them now currently in 3rd overall. Paul Ward’s Eat Sleep J Repeat followed the top two in 3rd place, but is still at the top spot on the overall race results.

Still lots of racing to come for the J/70’s so these results could change.

J/99’s

In the first J/99 nationals and class start at the J Cup Regatta, results are looking very close. Welsh 99 Jackpot is still in the lead and is sitting in 1st place overall after scoring 2-2-1 across day 2’s races. Kevin Taylor’s Jump 2 It is sitting comfortably in 2nd place followed by Mark Hepburn Janx Spirit which managed to stay in 3rd place by the end of day 2.

At the end of racing, sailors enjoyed English sparkling wine provided by Hambledon Vineyard and the debrief and drone footage from the North Sails team.
