Santa Cruz 37e

Introduction
Following on the exciting success of the Santa Cruz 37 built in carbon, Santa Cruz Yachts announces the SC37e.

Designed by Kernan Yacht Design, the new SC 37e will add a second boat to the Santa Cruz lineup. The SC 37e is a true cruiser/racer aimed at bringing the Santa Cruz experience of sailing fast and fun to a broader market.

The SC 37e will have e-glass construction in the hull and deck. She features twin wheels and an uncluttered deck layout for easy sailing with a crew or shorthanded. With her appealing price the SC 37e will interest both racers, with great class potential, and cruisers looking for a safe, fast, easy, fun boat to sail.

Under the water the SC 37e will feature a balanced blade rudder with a carbon stock, as well as a fixed fin bulb keel. The SC 37e will come standard with a carbon mast and rod rigging. With more weight in the bulb than the carbon version, the SC 37e will have a slightly lower CG. Both of the foils are designed to allow for a wide “groove” while sailing.

Santa Cruz Yachts decided on this action in part because it will broaden the groove for the boat, and therefore the target market. It will also mean a reduction in the price which is perhaps what the current economic climate necessitates, but most significantly, it will bring the IRC rating for the boat down and this will enable us to push the E-glass version of the SC37 as a potential one-design for the next Admiral’s Cup and beyond.

The test IRC rating for the E-glass version is 1.126. The E-glass version has a slightly heavier IRC displacement at 5037 as opposed to 4970 for the carbon, the foils are slightly wider and the keel slightly deeper and the keel on the E-Glass SC37 will also have a heavier bulb. Other than that, the new version will hold all of the design and performance characteristics of the carbon version.

Below decks there is a bright modern interior featuring a v-berth forward, port and starboard berths aft, full galley, and an enclosed head.
