Tuesday, 5 December 2017

J/97 Jaywalker won IRC class overall with five firsts and discarded one 5th in the Lymington Solent circuit series of six races. Bob Baker said “Racing in a mixed handicap fleet including three faster boats ;  but upwind with the new North 3di  jibs and main the J/97 sailed as fast or faster and pointed 5 to 10° higher on the beats.”  Jon and Bob Baker on Jaywalker were closely followed by another ‘J’,  William Newton on J/105 Jellybaby in second place.

In the one design J/80 class Chris & Hannah Neve picked up the class win with four fantastic bullets and a third closely followed by Andy Ash-Vie on Wildcat III in second place.

The Solent Circuit is the West Solent’s principle autumn yacht racing series. The event regularly attracts fleets of over 60 yachts for racing over seven Sundays throughout October and November. Racing is held for IRC and LAH handicap fleets as well as one design classes, which currently include J80’s and Folkboats. Courses are set in the West Solent, with Committee Boat start lines and race durations of approximately two hours.
